I shot the original photograph in Venice Italy. I loved the colors and the composition and thought it would make an excellent subject to show my ability in painting a scene.

 

The wonderful thing about painting from a photo is the liberties I can take. I can change a look to make it appear the way my mind's eye prefers.

For this painting I thought it would look better with just one gondolier, no passengers and some liberties with adding and removing items.
